The Full Picture

Our clients share their experiences on Google in their own words.

These are public reviews, not testimonials curated by us, so you always get the good with the bad.

We do you. exclusively

Your insurance people are probably lovely. But, does lovely know the policy?

Lovely is not the problem.

Lovely does not call you back on Christmas Day when the geyser bursts and water pours through your freshly painted ceiling. Lovely does not know rockslide is not an insured event until the boulders decorate your lounge. Lovely does not push back when the insurer offers to pay half of what you lost.

Lovely focuses on the cheapest price. We focus on the risk.

Lovely does volume. We do you. Exclusively.

We do not aim to be lovely. We aim to study every policy line so you never have to.

The question is not whether you trust your broker of many years. It is whether that trust has ever been tested. Do not wait for a claim to find out.

Business & Specialty

Business Clients.

Business Insurance covers the basics. Fire. Business Interruption. Theft. Liability. Motor. And more. The SA insurance market packages these common business risks into standard commercial policies. Neat bundles. Easy to sell. A commodity product.

Then there is marine cargo, construction, specialised liability, cyber and other specialised business risks. These fall outside the standard business insurance packed offerings, are extremely technical and yet, are often handled like commodity products.

A working yard at dusk: warehouse bay, stacked containers, a bakkie and a loaded trailer.

The problem? You are not a commodity. Your Business and Specialised Insurance risks can never fit a template approach. They need solutions built around your unique exposures.

You need a professional risk advisor, who understands your operation. Someone who asks the right questions before quoting, not after a claim gets declined. Someone who knows how business insurance should work.

Standard & High Net Worth

Private Clients.

Personal Insurance in SA is offered in standard packaged solutions and high net worth solutions. Most people assume they have the right one. Most do not. Most have not checked in years. The real risk question goes beyond which category you fall into. It is whether your current cover matches what you own today.

Comprehensive standard personal insurance insures the essentials well: Home, Cars, Valuables. When your high valued assets outgrow those limits, high net worth solutions become essential. Either way, our approach does not change.

A living room at dusk: leather sofa, a watch and a laptop on the table, Table Mountain through the glass.

We do not sell policies. We advise on risk.

Standard or high net worth, we start by understanding your exposures, then quote with clarity and care. Our private client service is responsive, clear and personal.

This is what you paid for

Claim Stories.

Over 100 five star reviews prove consistency in performance. We are very grateful for them.

But they do not tell you what happens when a pipe bursts at 2am and the policy wording gets… interesting. Or when your business faces a loss and suddenly there are twelve different interpretations of what “accidental damage” actually means.

This is when you find out whether your insurance partner can read the fine print, argue the grey areas and translate chaos into a settlement.

These claims stories show you how we do that.

"The hippo bit the vehicle, lifted it about half a meter and shook it."
Hannes Lochner
WILDLIFE PHOTOGRAPHER

Hannes Lochner spends his life in places where most insurance policies usually quietly void themselves. The Okavango. The Kalahari. Anywhere a Land Cruiser doubles as bedroom, darkroom and occasionally, as it turns out, a chew toy.

He was in Botswana when a hippo decided his truck looked chewable. One bite. The kind of moment where you are grateful for steel panels and suddenly very aware that “comprehensive cover” is a term that seldom gets tested in this way.

A South African vehicle. A Botswanan hippo. The sort of cross border incident that makes insurers have a look at your motor policy exclusions. Very closely.

Except Hannes rang us. We had already thought about this type of scenario. Unsurprisingly, not this hippo’s moment of madness specifically, but the “what happens when your work vehicle operates in territories where the wildlife has right of way” question.

Chadwicks sorted it. Fast. Without a dissertation on jurisdictional complexity or a three month wait while someone decides whether a hippo constitutes an “act of God” or “malicious damage by third party.”

Watch Hannes explain what happened. It is a far better story than we could tell.

Insurance clarity. With care. In action.

"The feeling you always get is that Chadwicks are on your side"
Craig Torr
CEO - CRUE INVEST

Craig Torr had a claim rejected. They said, see page 117, sub section 2A, clause 3, point 6 and referred to something fine that wasn't so fine. The fineprint. This is what insurers sometimes do first when they are unsure. Bless them. They say no nicely and on occasion, not so nicely, to see if you will go away.

And most people do. It is a surprisingly effective strategy. Most people don’t read their policies. And most people certainly don’t fancy their chances arguing insurance contract law with someone who signs their emails “Claims Assessor” and uses words like “regrettably.” They usually take the pain and move on.

Craig rang us instead. Which was a good move, given we had already read his policy. Several times. Including the boring bits.

We looked at the rejection. Then we looked at the policy. Then we had a conversation with the insurer that was diplomatic, but clear about what the policy actually said versus what they were failing to see or did not want to see (take your pick).

Claim paid. Problem solved.

This is not heroic. It is the job. But it seems reading your client’s policy and then insisting the insurer honours it, qualifies as a rare insurance event these days.

Rare enough that Craig wanted to say something about it. Watch him explain what happened when a Chadwicks risk advisor stepped in when his claim turned ugly.

Insurance clarity. With care. In action.

Cut Risk. Not Corners

Prevention is better than premium.

Risk management is about preventing claims before they happen. Most people do not realise that multiple small claims damage insurability more than one large loss.

Frequent claims signal predictability to insurers. Premiums climb. Cover becomes harder to place. Your risk profile deteriorates after every paid claim.

We help you spot the risks you did not know you had, manage the ones you can control, self insure what you can absorb and insure the rest properly. The result: an attractive risk profile and maximum premium efficiency. Less risk. Lower premiums. Better insurability.

We Take The Pain Away

When you need us most.

Insurance is not a zero sum game. It is risk pooling and transfer mechanism where both parties can win. Insurers win by pricing the risk sustainably and managing claims properly and clients win when claims are paid promptly and fairly. Insurance gets a bad name when either fails. And the most common perceived failure is claims.

This is why, when it comes time to claim, you will know you made the right insurance decision. Too many financial service providers disappear when you need them most. We do not. You get a person who knows your file, understands the policy and pushes the insurer when they need pushing. Responsive. Clear. No runaround. The way insurance claims should be.

Our media presence is predominantly earned.
Independent editors at South Africa's leading publications have chosen to publish our thinking on risk and insurance, not as we paid for the space, but as the thinking merited it.

How We Work

We are not your insurers broker. We are yours.

You Are Exclusive

Boutique insurance.Not commodity insurance.

We give you what you need, not necessarily what you want. It is a blunt statement, but it sets the course clearly and honestly.

Chadwicks is not for everyone. We work best with discerning clients who want a specialist who understands risk and insurance better than they do and who rely on that expertise to make informed insurance decisions.

If you are looking for someone to follow instructions, get cheap quotes and ignore your claims history, we are probably not a good fit.

If you want a brokerage that knows more about insurance than you do and who uses that judgement to help you structure your cover properly, you will feel right at home here.

Cut Risk. Not Corners

We fired a client. Once.

He wanted us to cut corners on his cover to save R100 a month.

He wanted to remove fire from his fire policy. We explained why this was not advisable. He was not interested.

So we resigned. Politely and professionally. In writing.

Three years later he called us back. We do not need to tell you why.

We are not the right broker for everyone.

We are the right broker for people who have worked too hard to gamble on the details, who do not want someone to ignore their claims history and find them a policy at the lowest price. We are the right broker for people who want a specialist whose judgment on risk they trust more than their own and they use that trust to make better insurance decisions.
